The Unity Story
A Chicago manufacturer since 1918. Post-mount spotlights since the 1920s.
Unity Manufacturing was founded on the south side of Chicago in 1918 and came under the sole ownership of Henry Rue Gross in 1923. By the mid-1920s it was producing the product it is still known for: the post-mount spotlight, aimed from inside the vehicle with one hand. Road lights for cars and heavy trucks followed in the 1930s. After moving to its current 160,000 sq. ft. facility in 1960, Unity added emergency lighting for police, fire and rescue vehicles.
Built in-house
Unity is the world's largest manufacturer of post-mount spotlights and a major OE supplier of auxiliary and emergency lighting. It builds in its own factories, with chrome plating, polishing, machining, stamping, gear cutting, wire harness work and assembly done in-house.
Who runs Unity
Police, fire and ambulance fleets, tow and wrecker operators, utility crews, snow plows, farm and military vehicles. Many police vehicles leave the factory with a Unity spotlight already installed, which is why replacement handles, lamps and kits for Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge police packages are a core part of what we stock.
From halogen to LED
The 325 and 330 series remain the halogen standard at 50 and 100 watts. The 335 and X335 series deliver comparable reach at 30 watts, and the U-8547 LED lamp upgrades existing S6 and S04 halogen heads without replacing the spotlight.
