Patrol Vehicle Spotlights

Patrol duty is the hardest life a vehicle spotlight has. It is aimed dozens of times a shift, every shift, often in rain and always in a hurry, and it has to still hold aim three years later. That is why the equipment specified for patrol cars differs from what suits a work truck or a ranch vehicle.

What patrol use demands

Aim from the driver's seat without opening a window. Instant full output - no warm-up, because the moment you need the light you need it now. A mechanism that holds its position over a road surface at speed. Current draw low enough that the light does not fight the rest of the vehicle's electrical load. And serviceability, because a fleet cannot replace a whole unit when a handle wears.

Unity post-mount: the fleet standard

Unity's post-mount spotlight has been standard equipment on American patrol vehicles since the 1930s. The interior control handle gives 360 degree rotation and full vertical travel one-handed from the seat, with no motor, no remote and nothing to pair. Every component - handle, lens, gasket, trim, lead wire - is available separately, so a unit stays in service for decades.

Golight: when the mount point is out of reach

Where a mechanical handle cannot reach - roof bars, push bumpers, unmarked vehicles where a pillar penetration is unacceptable - a Golight Stryker ST puts a motorised 544,000 candela head wherever it is needed, steered from a hardwired dash panel. Fleets generally specify hardwired over wireless so there is no remote to lose and no battery to change.
