Unity Spotlights

Unity Manufacturing was founded in Chicago in 1918 and has built post-mount spotlights since the 1920s. For roughly a century the Unity post-mount spotlight has been standard equipment on American patrol cars, fire apparatus, utility trucks and ranch vehicles. SpotlightDepot stocks the full current catalogue - 75 items covering complete spotlights, installation bracket kits, handle assemblies and service parts.

What makes a Unity spotlight different?

The defining feature is the interior control handle. The lamp head sits outside on the A-pillar; the handle is inside the cabin. You aim the light through 360 degrees of rotation and full vertical travel from the driver's seat, one-handed, without opening a window. No motor, no remote, nothing to pair or charge. That mechanical directness is why fleets that have used them for decades keep specifying them.

Halogen or X-LED?

Unity's traditional 100 W halogen heads remain in production and remain popular: proven, inexpensive, and parts-compatible with units fitted twenty years ago. The X-LED series is the modern option - far lower current draw on the vehicle's electrical system, roughly 50,000 hours of lamp life against a few hundred for halogen, instant full output with no warm-up, and a crisp white beam. For any new installation, X-LED is the better choice. For a fleet standardised on halogen spares, halogen still makes sense.

Post mount or pillar mount?

Post-mount is Unity's signature configuration: the assembly clamps to the door frame post, the handle passes through into the cabin. It installs faster, needs a smaller penetration and can be removed later. Pillar-mount passes through the A-pillar itself for a flush, factory-look fit - stronger and cleaner, but a permanent modification to the body.

Will a Unity spotlight fit my vehicle?

The lamp head is largely universal; the bracket kit is not. Fit is determined by the bracket, which is specific to body, mount location and side. Use our vehicle fitment search - enter year, make and model and it returns the spotlights that fit, the bracket kit number and the correct handle, taken from Unity's own vehicle application data.

Driver side and passenger side

Most installations are driver-side, which is what the majority of our stock covers. Passenger-side and dual-side installations use different, handed brackets. Check the side before ordering; an RH kit will not fit the left-hand pillar.

Serviceability

Unity spotlights are designed to be rebuilt rather than replaced. Lenses, trim rings, gaskets, lead wires and complete handle assemblies are all available separately, so a twenty-year-old unit coming off a retired vehicle can be returned to sealed factory condition and refitted.
